It's been an interesting weekend.

Yesterday I discovered Ubiquity - a Firefox plugin for the Mac & PC platforms that I think will eventually change the way we use our browser. This is a Zero-Point-One release... so it's kind of in its infancy in becoming a full blown program. I haven't had it cause any problems yet, but it's barely been 24 hours.

Yesterday I also discovered Launchpad. A Mac app that lets you use the keyboard to do a lot of stuff. I don't think this would interest average mac users (like my Mom), but it's a really cool app I've been getting a lot of mileage out of. We'll see if its still installed in a week. It's in beta now, so its free.

My new hobby

A Famous Foto

There's this picture that got circulated as an email forward a while ago. It was of all Microsoft employees when the company was first getting off the ground.
Here's the picture:
Their sense of style and personal grooming was to become a hallmark of nerds and geeks. They were truly trendsetters and pioneers. I don't know but I think they're all rich now. At least Bill G is one of the 3 richest in the world. I know that for sure. Bill by himself would make their average net worth something like 2.7 Billion each.

The BBC did a great writeup on the photo, and it turns out they all got together for it to be taken again. The previous shot was missing one employee: their secretary - who happened to be the oldest employee. They called her "mama." So when they got together to re-shoot the photo recently she was included. Here's the new picture:

It's really slick. You can adjust your parameters by number or using the slider setting the upper and lower limits. They've even gone to the trouble of including a distribution graph of how companies are distributed along the continuum.

This tool is not for the fainthearted though. If you don't know how to use it, you probably shouldn't try. You might hurt yourself.

N.T. Wright on Colbert?

I'm reading What St. Paul Really Said by N.T. Wright. It's a fantastic book and I'd highly recommend it.
